Reflections
Reflection: something I have been doing more of lately, and especially after the other night. I received a text from my friend’s mother, seeing if I was okay. Confused, she informed me she heard about the mass shooting in Miami and wanted to make sure I was alive and not hurt. Frantically looking up the incident, I read that on Friday night in the Wynwood area of Miami (roughly 15 minutes from where I live), a gunman fired more than 60 shots on a busy street Friday night, hitting at least seven people, killing one and injuring six. This made my heart sink. Not only was I recently attending a dinner earlier in the week in the same area, but, as a human being, imagine being out for an evening stroll without a care in the world, and then your whole life changes, IF you’re given another chance at life.
Life is fleeting and it is not guaranteed, no matter who we are. However, for a human life to be taken so selfishly and carelessly from a person is just revolting, to me.
So, as I sit overlooking the beautiful waters in Puerto Rico, a thousand miles away from the shootings last night, I very much understand that life is not all beauty nor are all peoples lives beautiful. The pain and sorrow of others affects me deeply.
So, let’s all appreciate the gift of life we have and the blessings we have been fortunate to receive during this lifetime. Life is not a given; it is a privilege. I am grateful for every morning I am allowed to wake up and for every breath I take. Thank you God! And I am praying for there to be a shield of protection over my friends, family, loved ones and anyone who requests it of me—including prayers for those and their families who were injured or lost their life in the tragic event Friday.
I know social media is usually all about the fluff and ‘the beautiful people,’ but I thought to bring some realness today. Much love to you all. Stay safe out there
Lesley
